Archery Accessories: Keeping You Safe while Developing Your Game
Experience Hunting Thrills with Archery
Archery is one of the most popular sports nowadays. Not the least because it allows one to feel the thrill as a
hunter, but also because the game enables one to practice reflexes, particularly in aiming at the target. There is
always the exhilarating reeling when one sees the arrow glide to its target, knowing it could mean either hitting
the bull's eye or naught. In any case, the game's biggest draw is that it is very easy to play even with improvised
materials and in a small area, with few archery accessories needed.
The Development of Archery
The present game of archery is a direct descendant of the hunting ways our forefathers did several centuries
ago. However, from being a means of livelihood and supporting families by hunting game, archery today is seen
primarily as a sport - a mainstay in most sporting competitions such as the Olympic Games. And from being a means
to support family, today's archery has for its target not game nor wildlife but targets fitted with rings with
corresponding points. And where before prowess was decided by the number of games killed, today's archer is gaged
by the points earned in hitting the target. One of the reasons for the huge popularity of the sport is that it
basically needs only three equipments: a bow and arrow, which can be improvised, and a target, which can also be
made out of makeshift and discarded materials.
Common Archery Accessories
The following are some of the common archery accessories used by archers.
- Chest protector. A chest protector is a very important archery
accessory because it protects your ribcage from expanding too much whenever you draw back the arrow in
preparation for its release. As such, it protects your chest area from any possible injury. Apart from this,
it also allows your body some measure of stability when lifting the bow, particularly the longbow which is
very heavy.
- Bracer. A bracer protects the archer's forearm while shooting. Normally, it is made up of leather or
plastic or any material that may be strong enough to resist abrasions from the string. It keeps the archer's
arm from getting hurt by the fletching. Moreover, it also prevents any loose garment from catching the bow
string or the arrow.
-
Finger Tab. Also known as archer tab, this is another archery accessory intended to protect the archer's
fingers from being hurt by the string or from any accidental scrapping with the arrow. For most archers, they
prefer wearing gloves, although in summer months, a finger tab is more preferred because of its relaxed feel
and aerated design. There are many different types and designs of the finger tab, but their purpose remains
uniformly the same.
- Thumb Ring. Just like the finger tab, the thumb ring is another archery accessory intended to protect the
archer's fingers from being hurt by the string. The material commonly used is wood, ivory, metal, plastic, or a
stone that fits the end of the thumb perfectly.
Some archery accessories may not be worn in all competitions, but it is undeniable that wearing them keeps the
archer safe while helping improve one's game.
